Current troubles
- Many roofs within the camp still contain asbestos, exposing residents to ongoing and serious health risks, something MAP Jordan is trying to treat as well.
- Houses within the camp are overcrowded. In some of the houses, there are 3 to 4 families under the same roof.
- Poverty remains a severe challenge for camp residents, especially the 20% originating from Gaza, who face statelessness that severely limits their access to employment and healthcare.
- Regardless of the camp developing a vibrant main market, prices remain high for many, further highlighting the ongoing economic hardship. Therefore, it also illustrates that due to their poverty, obtaining healthcare and especially specialized healthcare might be a struggle, a struggle MAP Jordan aims to improve by providing cheaper/ free healthcare to ensure that they also are getting their fundamental right to healthcare.
However, through our developments, MAP Jordan continues to give high-quality care to the residents in Hittin Camp and neighborhoods around it. Recently, MAP Jordan has accomplished the following:
- A physical therapy unit was launched. Aiming to improve patients’ quality of life through physical rehabilitation and pain reduction resulting from injuries or chronic diseases.
- A continuous education unit for refugees. This specific unit is established to provide new skills and knowledge to the community and give them knowledge from formal courses to casual social learning.
- The Audiometry Unit was launched to conduct hearing screenings for newborns and perform comprehensive auditory assessments covering all parts of the ear. The unit accurately diagnoses hearing issues and determines patients’ needs for hearing aids or cochlear implants, ensuring a timely and effective intervention.
