Jordan Medical Aid for Palestinians, Al-Basar International Foundation, and Al-Khansa Hospital Successfully Complete Fourth and Fifth Anti-Blindness Campaigns
Amman, Jordan – May 8, 2025 The Jordan Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP Jordan), in cooperation with Al-Basar International Foundation and Al-Khansa Hospital, proudly announces the successful completion of its fourth and fifth anti-blindness campaigns. Through this recent effort, a total of 930 free cataract surgeries were performed for patients residing in refugee camps across various regions of the Kingdom. This achievement brings the total number of surgeries conducted since the campaign’s inception in January 2024 to 2,250.
The campaign’s first phase launched with 399 surgeries, followed by a total of 923 successful surgeries in the second and third phases. In the fourth and fifth campaigns alone, 8,072 patients were screened. In addition to the surgeries, free eye drops and prescription eyeglasses were distributed to patients in need. These services were part of a comprehensive approach aimed at enhancing eye health and improving the quality of life for the communities.
Ms. Islam Mohamad, Program Supervisor at MAP Jordan, said “this initiative goes beyond numbers, each surgery represents a powerful story: families witnessing the restored vision of their loved ones, youth rejoining their communities as active contributors, and elderly individuals regaining the ability to care for their families. These efforts are about restoring hope, dignity, and independence”.
The remarkable success of this initiative stands as a testament to the strong collaboration between partner organizations and generous supporters whose continuous backing has made this humanitarian milestone possible. All parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding these efforts to ensure that no one—especially the most vulnerable—is deprived of the gift of sight.
