The Government of Japan has extended a grant of US$ 65,677 to MAP Jordan for the provision of medical equipment under the scheme Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

A grant contract was signed by Mr. OKUYAMA Jiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Mr. Michael Al Sayegh, President of the Board of Directors of MAP Jordan, during the ceremony held on the 6th of March 2023.

This grant assistance aims to enhance the quality of medical services provided at the medical center in Hittin Palestinian Refugee Camp, through the provision of a new X-ray machine, electroencephalograph, and electromyography equipment.

MAP Jordan was established in 1990 as an non-profit NGO in Jordan. Since then, the organization has provided medical services to Palestinian Refugees in refugee camps at an affordable prices or free of charge. With the new medical equipment provided by the Japanese grant, the medical center will be able to provide safer and more accurate services and improve access to medical services for refugees in camps.

At the signing ceremony, Ambassador OKUYAMA expressed his gratitude to the organization’s great social contribution and stated: “The provision of new medical equipment will allow for the establishment of a neurology department, which will provide more comprehensive medical services. The patients will no longer have to be referred to a hospital outside the camp, hitherto a significant burden for patients economically who don’t have health insurance”.
