Prince El Hassan inaugurates community center at Gaza camp in Jerash
AMMAN — HRH Prince El Hassan, honorary president of the Jordan Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP Jordan), on Monday inaugurated a new community center at the Gaza Camp Medical Center in Jerash.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, attended by officials, institutional leaders and representatives of various organizations, Prince El Hassan emphasized the need to uphold shared human dignity and ensure that all development and relief efforts are guided by “compassion and a deep sense of humanity.”
He also stressed the need for sustainable funding sources that promote dignity through the concept of citizenship, rather than fostering dependency, noting that reducing reliance on foreign aid requires enhanced cooperation across the Levant and broader region, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Prince El Hassan also highlighted the importance of trust-building with all segments of society and advocated for a community-based approach to development, aimed at serving broader and more inclusive populations.
Chairman of MAP Jordan’s Board of Directors Michael Sayegh said that the center's inauguration marks the launch of its first initiative, “Renewing Hope in the Camp,” which seeks to improve the living environment for camp residents.
The initiative includes activities such as street cleaning, greening public spaces, and painting murals that reflect the collective culture and aspirations of the camp’s inhabitants.
These efforts are carried out in partnership with government bodies, civil society groups, and various organizations active in the camp, Petra reported.
Director of the Gaza Camp Center Amal Tashtoush highlighted the vital role of partnerships between civil society and official institutions in driving meaningful and lasting change.
She stressed MAP Jordan’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian and social mission to build a “more just and dignified society.”
The new community center is part of a broader humanitarian effort to create a safe and inclusive space, particularly for children and women, through a range of social programmes aimed at empowerment and fostering active community participation.
