Talbiyeh Camp Medical Center - Zizia, Amman

Talbiyeh Refugee Camp:

Talbiyeh camp is situated 27 kilometers south of Amman, the capital of Jordan. The camp was established in 1968 as an emergency camp for Palestinians who were displaced from Palestine to Jordan during the Six-Day War.

Talbiyeh camp is recognized as the smallest camp in terms of population among the refugee camps in Jordan. The area spans 135,655 Dunums, where the estimated population of the camp in 2024 was 10,345 (according to UNRWA). The surrounding areas of the camp, such as Al-Jizah, are also known to be the poorest neighborhoods within Jordan as of 2025. Since they are considered one of Jordan’s least resource-rich areas, the health clinics in and around the community play a crucial role in supporting families’ well-being.

Talbiyeh Camp Medical Center:

Jordan Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP Jordan) established the Talbiyeh Camp Medical Center in 2019 to serve individuals living in the south of the capital, Amman, and a large number of remote and vulnerable populations residing in the same district.

These clinics are supported by a laboratory, a radiology lab, and a pharmacy.

These clinics serve as a vital lifeline and trusted refuge for the surrounding communities. They strive to bridge the gap in medical care for individuals and families in need, both within the camp and in nearby areas, welcoming all, regardless of ethnicity or background.

In 2024 alone, the Talbiyeh Camp Medical Center provided care to an average of 2,400 patients each month, reaching over 26,000 people throughout the year. Each visit reflects a story, a need, and a person who found support and healing.

In 2025, the Medical Center underwent a 350-square-meter expansion, a meaningful step toward deepening and broadening the care it can offer. This development includes the addition of specialized units:

  1. A physiotherapy unit, offering much-needed support for patients with orthopedic conditions;
  2. A diabetes unit, dedicated to providing holistic, specialized care for individuals living with all types of diabetes; and
  3. An audiometry unit, enabling thorough hearing assessments and early detection of auditory issues.

These new services are more than just medical offerings; they represent hope, dignity, and the opportunity for a better quality of life.

Alongside these important clinical developments, we have placed a strong emphasis on health education, especially in empowering women and girls to take charge of their well-being. Recognizing that knowledge is a powerful tool, a number of educational sessions were organized, including awareness classes on breast cancer, with a particular focus on prevention and early detection. These sessions aim to ensure that women have access to life-saving information and feel confident in understanding and caring for their own health.

The center supports adolescent girls by offering age-appropriate education for those between the ages of 14 and 18. These sessions cover essential topics such as understanding their bodies, menstrual health, and personal hygiene to empower young girls with the knowledge they need to grow into healthy, informed women.
