Japan Handover Medical Equipment To Jordan Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP Jordan)

The handover ceremony of medical equipment including an X-ray unit, ECG, cardiology ultrasound, and ENT was held at the medical center of Jordan Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP Jordan) in Jerash Palestinian Refugee Camp on Monday, January 27th, 2020, in the presence of Mr. ARAIKE Katsuhiko, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan in Jordan and Mr. Mufleh Aqel, Treasurer and member of the Board of MAP Jordan.

In 2018, the Government of Japan extended to MAP Jordan a grant for a total of seventy-two thousand nine hundred and thirty-three US dollars (US$ 72,933) for the implementation of the project titled “Provision of Medical Equipment to Medical Center in Jerash Palestinian Refugee Camp” through the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects called GGP which aims to improve basic human needs at the grass-roots level through NGOs and local governments.

The overall objective of the project is to improve the quality of medical services provided at MAP Jordan’s medical center, through the provision of medical equipment. MAP Jordan was established in 1990 as an NGO and has been supporting Palestinian refugees and other vulnerable people by providing needed medical services. With the new medical equipment provided by Japan, more accurate and immediate diagnoses and the required treatment afterward will be available.

In the speech delivered during the handover ceremony, Mr. ARAIKE emphasized the importance of the project and stated: “I would like to emphasize that the support for Palestinians has been one of the priorities of Japanese Development Assistance and we have supported them in Palestine and also in Jordan. Focusing on the financial difficulty of UNRWA, I want to reiterate that we have supported UNRWA for many years and now we are working closely with Jordan to enable UNRWA to overcome this difficulty and continue its activities. We sincerely hope that the equipment provided under this project will contribute to providing medical care for Palestinian people.”

Under Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects, Japan has extended more than 10 million US dollars for 148 projects to NGOs, schools, hospitals, and local governments in Jordan since 1993.
